Wishing Upon A Wishing Star.. :)

"Every human's heart is a wishing well where the soul of the human makes a wish every moment.. Some of these wishes are fulfilled and some are not.. But even if the wish isn't fulfilled, the desire remains and burns like a silent flame in some corner of this well.. Human wishes are million but of all these wishes, there are some that we are ready to die for and some that literally take our life.. And I've had a wish so long in my heart that this wish of mine has become the reason of my existence.." ~Sujitha :P

We all have wishes that were fulfilled within the snap of a finger and we all have wishes that we want really badly to be fulfilled but no matter how much ghee and incense sticks we burn, they just don't get fulfilled.. -.- However, like the old saying "Travel being more important than destination", the journey towards our dreams is often more fulfilling than the moment of success.. This is perhaps why the journey is often called 'success story'.. All the struggles, all the failures and all the disappointments suddenly start making sense the moment you live your dream.. Every failure indeed feels like the stepping stone to success..

But for all of us who never see their wish turning true, the journey becomes an important lesson.. A lesson that sometimes no matter how hard you try and how badly you want something, you'll just not get it.. Not because you're not worth it but because probably its not worth you.. May be there's something better waiting for you at the end of the road or may be its just not worth all the struggle.. I remember my Mum once telling me that as a kid, she had always wanted to have a watch but the financial condition of her family was bad and hence, she never really got the chance to own one.. Now that she has the opportunity to own a watch, no matter how costly it is, she just doesn't want one.. Reason? She says some wishes are better kept alive and burning.. The moment you fulfill them, they loose their charm.. So, she chooses to not to buy a watch because for her that memory of wanting a watch badly is more cherishable and fulfilling than wearing a real watch (By the way, she owns something like 3 watches but never wears them! -.-').. Hence, the truth is no matter how hard we try to deny it, some things in life are forever cherished just because we never really had the chance to own it.. People who are at peace with this little fact of life, often feel more content and satisfied with the feeling of  'not having it' rather than 'having it'.. For them, their journey was never 'failure' because they learnt the most valuable lesson of life and believe it or not, the chase was equally enjoyable! ;)

So, what did you wish for today? :)

The Theory of Relativity! ;)

When Einstein came up with the theory of relativity, little did the old chap knew how relevant it is in the field of human relationships, more than in physics! Man is a social animal.. We live in society and have bonds with every human we interact.. Some of these bonds are strong and everlasting while others are weak and short-lived.. Irrespective of the kind of bonds we share, our need and habit of comparing ourselves with others and see where we stand with respect to them is ancient and may be even pre-historic..  It is this habit that is both instrumental to our growth and detrimental to it if we get too obsessive with this theory of relativity..

Most of our wishful thinking also arises out of our habit of implementing the theory of relativity to our everyday life.. "I wish I could land a great well-paying job like him", "I wish I was beautiful like her", "I wish I had happy endings like fairy tales".. All these wishes are nothing but our perception of how happy others are with what they have and how happy we would be if we were in their shoes.. But do we ever stop for a second and think if that great job of your friend is actually stopping him from having a life? Do we ever think that may be the beautiful girl is actually scared of going out alone because she's afraid of being eve-teased or even worse? And above all, do we ever think that most of the fairy tales don't start with a happy starting (finally some similarity with 'real life') and that if the author ever wished to continue the story after the 'happy ending', he would most certainly introduce more troubles for the main characters and push them into the vicious circle of problems, despair, hope and finally solution, just like it happens in normal human life?

Wishful thinking and comparing yourselves with others is not a bad thing.. Afterall, its only when you see someone achieving something that you've always desired, that you truly start working towards achieving it.. When you see someone having something that you once aspired for, you truly believe that its attainable and that may be you weren't putting enough effort into achieving it.. Hence, comparing ourselves with others and striving hard for our so-called 'happy ending' is not a bad thing.. In fact, its very necessary for our growth and development.. The trouble starts when we get too obsessed with winning and end up harming others and ourselves in the process.. Often this obsession ruins our relationships with people who genuinely care for us and damages our confidence and self-esteem beyond the scope of repair.. A man is judged by how he handles both success and failure.. If you fail and find yourself incapable of standing up, dusting yourself and trying again then you're 'a failure'.. If you achieve success and find yourself incapable of keeping your feet firm on the ground then you're 'a failure cum disaster'..

Being competitive is good but having the right kind of 'competitive spirit' is very important.. Our need for victory and glory teamed with vanity is the perfect recipe for disaster.. Hence, the next time you compare yourself with someone else and decide you want to be like them, ensure that your plan doesn't include the 'the perfect recipe for disaster'.. ;))

Happy wishful thinking! :D

Liar Liar, Pants on Fire!!! :D

So,here i was sitting and reading a manga(Japanese comics) when i came across a statement made by the author that literally pushed my brain into deep thinking (more so because i had nothing better to do! -__-).. On a particular page in that manga was written, "Liars feel comfortable when they are in the company of a straightforward person.." O__O

At first i was sure that either I had read the statement wrong else the author must have lost his mind.. Afterall, how can a liar ever be comfortable in the company of a straightforward person? Won't his constant lies to the straightforward person make him feel guilty? However, on a deep analysis, i realized the author might have struck gold with this statement.. I remember once being told by my graduation psychology teacher (Yeah, i had psychology paper in BBA! -__-) that "the world is a reflection of who you truly are inside.." What she meant to say is that we perceive the world as a mere reflection of us.. If we are good, we feel the whole world is good.. If we cheat people then we are always suspicious of other people cheating us.. So, its no wonder that a liar would find solace in the company of a straightforward person because if he knows for sure that this 'straightforward' person is harmless and would never lie (of course he starts believing this notion only after knowing the person long enough), he knows he can lie to his heart content and never get caught because for the straightforward person, the whole world is honest! But does this go on forever? Does the liar keep building castles of lies forever while the straightforward person never realizes his own naivety?

Of course this is not the case.. What liars dont know is that most of the straightforward people are good at catching the lies a liar tells, no matter how professional a liar they may be.. Straightforward people look for those subtle hints that indicate that the person is lying else hiding something.. However, they seldom confront the liar.. Reason? Well, mostly because they either value the person too much and so hope that one day the liar himself/herself would confess all the lies they ever said and sometimes they act innocent because they enjoy the way the liar lies.. They find the lies similar to the bragging of a brat who makes up story to entertain his peers.. And entertaining indeed the straightforward person finds the little harmless lies of the 'innocent' liar..

So,tell me your lies!!! :D

Cat vs Dog Personality: Human Psychology! :P

Okk.. People who know me know pretty well how fond I'm of pets.. But recently I've been thinking that having experience with pets can be helpful in dealing with people with different personalities around you. Quite interestingly, many psychologists also believe that people who own pets tend to be more caring and tactical at the same time! :O

Well, I grew up in a house and in a family where I had the opportunity to have both cats and dogs as pets and unlike popular beliefs that the two species cant co-exist, my dog and my Mum's kitties(i say Mum's kitties because she's the one who started the 'cat zoo' at our place! -__-) were pretty much on good terms(so much so that they ate from the same plate! O_O).. My experience with the two species one day led me to believe that these pets were no different from some of the people we meet in our day-to-day life and that their behavioral characteristics are quite similar..

Ask any dog owner and they'll tell you that when you get a dog, its better not to leave it alone in the initial few days.. Dogs love to stay in pack.. And hence, leaving them alone after bringing them to a new place distresses them.. So, its always advisable to play with them and keep them company.. Dogs love attention and tend to feel low when people ignore them or dont play with them.. Their emotional display is always in the extremes.. They're either too delighted, jumping around or just slouching looking uninterested, bored and sulking in a corner of the room..

Now, dogs are like those social butterflies you know from your real life.. Their whole life revolves around socializing and hence the moment they are left alone, they tend to go into depression and feel lonely.. People with dog personalities are usually the heart of any party.. You'll always find them surrounded by people, entertaining them and making sure that both they as well as their peers are having a good time.. They are very helpful by nature but tend to be very emotional.. Their need to socialize and be in the 'accepted' group often gets the better of them and as a result, these people are also equally prone to be influenced by bad company.. People with dog personality are very possessive and wont hesitate to demonstrate how important you are to them.. Heck! They'd even sacrifice themselves on the altar of embarrassment to impress you..

Cats, unlike dogs are not social.. They are loners and survivors.. They are alert and dont easily trust anyone.. People who've had cats as pet know its very difficult to establish an immediate rapport with it.. It usually starts with keeping a bowl of milk in its sight and leaving the place so that it can drink it peacefully(never try to even touch the cat when its drinking milk in the first few days of knowing it!).. Once you do this exercise for a few days, the cat realizes that you have not intention of harming it and so now it approaches you whenever you come with the bowl of milk.. It no longer bothers the cat even if you stand there watching while it finishes the milk.. Slowly and steadily, the cat starts trusting you and if it sees you sitting around alone, it'll come to you, rub itself against you and purr.. This indicates that the cat is now in love with you and you can pat it to your heart's content! :D

People with cat personalities tend to be shy and reserved. They dont like being in the lime-light and prefer being alone.. They are not emo, they just believe in having less yet meaningful relationships with the people in the outside world.. They are usually highly creative and their 'alone time' gives them the freedom to study things around them and give it their own new interpretation.. They are highly reliable but cunning at the same time.. They literally have the ability to read people's mind and so mind games dont work on them.. They usually dont like to argue or fight, however, they're fiercely protective of the people who are close to them and have fine sense of justice.. They're possessive and will treasure you forever but will never let you know that you're their weakness..

So,are you a cat or a dog? ;))
